  • Place a drop of colloidal silver in your dog’s eye and clean it using sterile cotton. Colloidal silver is readily available in health food stores and is helpful in soothing and healing minor eye irritations. Clean the affected area then place another drop of colloidal silver after cleaning.

 

  • Choose a saline solution to clean irritated or crusty eyes. You can make the solution by mixing together 1 cup of distilled water and 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt. Make sure to always use sterile cotton when applying the solution to your dog’s eye.

 

  • To clean irritated eyes or those with injury, a solution can be made by pouring 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of eyebright (a kind of herb), then add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and let the solution steep for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, strain the liquid into a clean and sterile bottle or glass container. Apply the solution to the affected area of your dog’s eye. The solution made can last up to 2 days if properly handled to avoid contamination.

 

  • To treat your dog’s eye with yellowish discharge, you need to pour 1 cup of boiling water over a 1/4 teaspoon of golden seal powder. Then, add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and let the solution steep for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, strain the liquid and pour the solution into a sterile bottle or glass container and avoid contamination. The solution can be applied to the affected eye to clear it from discharge.

In the event that it is necessary for you to take your pet to a vet, expect that his or her eyelids, inner eye and pupils will be thoroughly checked. A complete physical exam will also be performed by your vet since eye irritation and discharge can be a cause of a systemic disease.
